CFL is located on our private property in Auburn, WA. Please consider the commute distance carefully to ensure a positive volunteer experience. 

Due to insurance requirements and liability concerns, the minimum age for volunteers is 18 years old. You should be able to drive and have reliable transportation.

We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 volunteer shift (2 hours) per week on the same day of every week.

Our volunteer program is not a good fit for one time or short-term service. Because we expend resources in orienting, training, and scheduling new volunteers, we ask for a minimum 3-month commitment. If you are able to volunteer at least once per week for 3 months, we will provide you with written verification of your service hours.

No. Scheduling a group of volunteers to ensure that all of the horses and facilities needs are addressed is an enormous challenge. Rotating schedules do not work well for our volunteer program (but keep reading, there are other ways to help!)

No. Drop in volunteering does not work well for our program. However, volunteers with at least one regularly scheduled shift have the ability to add themselves to additional shifts when openings are available.

Feeding and caring for the horses requires that you be able to lift 50 lbs or more. You need to be able to push a loaded wheelbarrow, carry full water buckets, etc. Bad back, shoulder, knee? This is physically demanding work, and if you have restrictions this is not the job for you (but again, there are other ways to help, keep reading!)

Our horses are groomed regularly as part of our training process and staff duties. Grooming positions are available to long term volunteers who have proven their dedication and reliability in a feeding/chore volunteer role. You will need to start as a chore volunteer to be considered for a grooming position.
